We’ve got a new mod for the Combat server installed, it’s called Territory.

ABOUT

Territory is a Natural Selection Modification that implements a new game type. It’s implemented as a Plugin and runs Server Side.

It takes NS: Combat gameplay and changes a few rules. Specially designed maps have been made for it also.

Your objective is to control key positions of the map represented by Resource Nodes. No CC or Hive destroying, just controlling the nodes. There is actually more than one game mode for it, and some maps support more than one, which adds even more diversity to the game.

You can think of Territory as a step between Combat and NS Classic. You still have the experience/level system of Combat, but with a few strategy elements from Classic. You need to capture, build and hold key positions on the map and attack the enemy controlled positions.

Since you have several points to attack and defend, teamwork is a must. I think even those people that dislike Combat, because they think it’s boring and repetitive, will like Territory since it’s more tactical and dynamic at the same time. Territory could also help new players to have an easier transition from the simple frag-oriented Combat to the complex strategy-oriented Classic.

FEATURES

Usually any map made for Territory can be played in any mode. Maps are usually configured to be played in a certain mode but Admins can force another mode if they want.

The “resources” you get from RTs will give experience points evenly split among team members. (In some game modes only.)

The “default” Game Mode for each map is set on territory.ini file in the server. However, Admins can force another game mode for that map before the round starts. Score and time limit can be set in territory.ini also.

Territory works in Marines vs. Alien, Marine vs. Marine and Alien vs. Alien maps. Though AvA maps usually have some problems, not because of Territory, but because it’s not fully supported by NS. =/ There is no need for an autoglow or weld fix plugin, but if you are already running an autoglow or change model plugin, you can disable the Territory autoglow feature in case you have problems.

You can’t attack CC or Hive in Territory and you won’t get experience points for trying to. You only get experience points by killing enemies and through Resources collected by RTs.

GAME MODES

There are 5 game modes for Territory.

1) Capture All

You have to capture all points for a certain time to score.

Usually 2-4 RTs in the map
The objective is to capture and hold all RTs in the map for 10 seconds to score. When a team scores, all RTs are cleared and players reset to spawn.
You get 1 point for each node captured and 30 points if you capture all nodes.
The game ends by one team reaching the score limit or by time limit.

2) Resource War

The team that collects more resources wins. (That’s not aways the case, but you got it.)

Up to 15 RTs in the map (usually 3-8, though)
Each RT will give 1 point each 4 seconds to the team
Your team must capture RTs, hold them and destroy the enemys RTs.
Score limit is usually number of RTs * 50
The game ends by one team reaching the score limit or by time limit.

3) Sequence Capture

You have some points sequentially placed through the map and need to capture then in order to win.

Usually 4-7 RTs in the map
Team 1 must start building the first RT and Team 2 the last one.
The teams must build their RTs sequentially and destroy the enemys RTs as they gain ground.
You can only build one RT if you control the previous one. Once you build it, it will be protected unless the other team controls the next RT, in which case both will be unprotected and can be attacked. You cannot attack protected RTs. They will glow to show you that.
There is no score. If a team controls all RTs it wins. If time limit is reached the game draws.

4) Take Over

Take over is where a team is attacking and the other defending, you know how this one looks like.

Usually 4-7 RTs in the map
One team starts defending, the other attacking. Roles change when a team scores.
Defenders can’t build RTs, they need to defend them until time limit is reached to score 5 points. Attackers must capture all RTs to score 10 points. RTs will be protected once built.
You can only build one RT at a time, but there is no order.
The attackers start with a base time limit. For every RT they successfuly built, the time limit is extended.
Score limit is usually 30-50
The game ends by one team reaching the score limit or by time limit.

5) Tech War

This is more complex than the other modes and allows very different play styles for each team. It also looks a lot like NS, since both teams must choose wisely what upgrades to get first and play as a team using that strategy.

Usually 4-7 RTs in the map
All combat upgrades are blocked at game start.
The teams must build Upgrade Buildings/Chambers at each node to unlock a set of upgrades.
To drop an upgrade the team must vote which one they want. You can have only one of each upgrade building/chamber type.
Upgrade Buildings:
Armory: Welder, Mines, Hand Grenade, GL, HMG
Arms Lab: Weapon Upgrades, Shotgun
Prototype Lab: Armor Upgrades, Jet Pack, Heavy Armor
Observatory: Motion Tracking, Scanner Sweep, Resupply, Catalyst
You must have at least 2 buildings to get Jet Pack/Heavy Armor.
Upgrade Chambers:
Defense: Regeneration, Carapace, Redemption
Movement: Adrenaline, Celerity, Silence
Sensory: Scent of Fear, Cloacking, Focus
Offense: Unlock Hive habilities
You must have at least 1 buildings to go Gorge/Lerk/Fade and 2 to go Onos.
You won’t lose your upgrades if an upgrade b/c is destroyed, but you cannot get more upgrades of that type unless you build another one.
When you drop all possible upgrades, you must then build a Resource Tower to win.
There is no score. If time limit is reached the game draws.

How to play

You capture a RT by touching an empty node. An unbuilt RT is placed. You need to press the USE key to build it. All aliens can “build” the RT, not just the gorge. Marines can normally repair damaged RTs with welder, as can gorges by healing. You attack enemy RTs to destroy them. Once the enemy RT is destroyed another RT can be dropped for your team (or theirs if you’re not fast enough!).

In Resource War your team need to build RTs to gather as much resources as possible. The team that collects more resources win. If at any time your team control all the nodes in the map, you gain resources at double speed.

In Capture All you need to capture all res nodes in the map. Once you capture them, you score 30 points, all res nodes are reset and both teams respawn. The team with more captures win.

In Sequence Capture mode you can only build a RT next to another one you control. Also, you can only attack a RT next to another one you control, all others will be protected. Protected RTs will be glowing to show you they’re protected.

In Take Over you start either Attacking or Defending (check the display, it shows < Team is attacking >). When attacking you must destroy all enemy RTs and build yours. As you build them, your time extends. You score by capturing all nodes. As defender you must prevent the Attackers to destroy and build their RTs until time limit is reached.

In Tech War both teams start with no available upgrades. You must capture nodes and build there upgrade buildings/chambers. The upgrade to be dropped is chosen by voting it. When your team has all possible upgrades available they need to build one RT to win.

There has been alot of excitement about the Sticky Chambers from last weekend.  I’ve re-enabled them this weekend to get peoples reactions if this is something folks want permanently on the server.

To use sticky chambers, you have to AIM at the floor or wall or ceiling.  You don’t automatically build on the floor in front of you, you have to aim at the floor if you want it on the floor.

Please make your opinion known!

Gnomes!

Gnome has been enabled on server 2.  Type /gnomeme to become a gnome on marine team.

Gnomes have 3x Melee damage, 2x Build and weld time, and crazy knockback from damage.

Sticky Chambers are enabled on Server 1 today!  Just look at a wall, ceiling, or floor where you want your chamber to stick before creating it.

Congratulations to n3wB! for winning this weeks gorge race.  Enjoy your nifty new icon and reserved slot.

As a little side note, the only reason you beat me is because i got steamed around level 4 after late joining by ten minutes. I would have made a sweet comeback and taken the cake but i didnt have the patience to redo level 1. Fucking moving bar type deally. Anyways congrats

Roll The Dice is enabled on Server 2 for Sunday, August 3rd.

To use it, just type “Rollthedice” in say.

You can also go into console and bind <key> “say rollthedice”

Server one is back on line. Thanks to all of you for your patience while we sorted out the issues for server one.

Yes – The bad news is there is currently a problem with server one and our administration staff is working hard to resolve this trouble in an expedited fashion. We apologize for this inconvenience (especially on the start of a weekend) and hope to have it resolved soon.

This just in… Regulator can kiss my ass, i told you i made the news. Shit brah, i AM the news.

In an update on a previous story, Tincan’s innocence was proven via a thorough review of the half live tv demos. Turns out he picked up a nade launcher intended for another teammate and there was no use of aim/aimbots. Stay clean little buddy, stay clean.

In other news, nothing interesting happened yet.

Tomorrow i will be leaving town to go work at a summer camp in the asscrack of nowhere and as a result nothing interesting will happen/be reported on until next weekend.

BREAKING NEWS BULLETIN:
The link was a success!
That is all.

Im not sure if this is where i post, i guess ill find out in a second after i click publish. On the off chance that this is correct, then the current news is as follows:

Our Top Story of the night, Sadly some of our fellow clan members have departed, Superskulk and Hunter have resigned from the clan. You will be missed and we all hope you guys still come around to hang out on teamspeak or in game every so often and check in. You will be missed.

In other news, in a tragic twist of fate, Tincan managed a positive ratio earlier this week in a match held on tanith. Suspicion of the circumstances has lead to further investigation and allegations of possible hacking and/or downloading of skill. Check back later for updates on this shocking tale.

Another item of interest, http://nsbadclan.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1860 (Thats an attempt at making a link) The Traveling Fade Project has resurfaced! After thought of having the fade lost to the void of the postal service it has once again been spotted and is now on the way to ShenTrax.

The End
p.s. We love you tincan
p.p.s. The new News Anchor is me! Vollrathdude! yay!
